The secret to dining with friends is remembering their eating habits. I have friends that can pack it away like linebackers and of course they are pencils thin. Before joining them for a meal I deside my menu in advance, exactly what I am goint to eat and then I stick with it. Don't be envious of the amount they are consuming, just enjoy what you are having, eat slowly and talk alot. Then pat yourself on the back for sticking to your plan.

Yes absolutely... I had lost over 120 pounds and I was speed walking at work on breaks and lunch, bringing a healthy lunch and watching all the bad stuff like saturated fats and such. I was riding my bike for 10 miles on saturday and everything I was on a roll. I lost all the weight in about 8 months.. I kept it of for a few years...then I started going to lunch with some friends from work and I gained amost half of that back... I was sick... They went I wanted to be part of the group, ... and the thing is everyone one of them is over weight. At first I would try to get healthy foods but then the group would start picking the worst places to eat... and on and on.. Now I am struggling to lose it again and this time I have to. I feel awful. My husband recently had to get a stint due to a blockage of course due to our awful eating habits, so after that we started getting serious. We read all the labels on everything we buy. We watch the salt, the fat, the cholesterol, and the calories. I bet we were eating 5,000 to 6,000 gm of salt on an average saturday... now we average 1,500 to 1800...and even less some days. We eat more fruit, more whole grains, more lean meats when we eat meats. oh and I love peanut butter (and if you have never looked... jif crunch peanut butter has a lot less sodium then the creamy... so HA.. love my the crunch stuff. and no I dont over do it ... but I have noticed a nice pb&j sandwhich for lunch with some fruit and I am not hungry until well after I get home... I have already lost some weight and feel so much better. So now I am careful not to let my friends influence what I eat... unless its in a healthy way...

I'm with you.. I really don't like going to other peoples houses to eat. I have my own way of eating and I know what I'm getting. I try to have "just a little" but I end up eating twice what I normally would and then I kick myself all the way home. I ALWAYS eat more than I should at restaurants too. I don't
go out much and when I do, something inside me says, I deserve to have the fat laden food. ugh!!! Why is that.. oh well, such is life.

Yes! When I am with my sisters I eat and drink like theres no tomorrow. I feel that if I eat it quickly no one will notice or that I am in some way celebrating so it does not count. Feast or famine , thats me.
I can't seem to be a normal eater. To make matters worse I spent Christmas with one of my sisters and we ate the same, drank the same, did she have any weight on, NO. I packed on 6 pounds she put on nothing. Thats life

I find it easier to eat in a restaurant rather than at someone's home. In a restaurant you can pick a lower calorie or lower fat item from the menu, but when you go to someone's home for a meal you just eat what you get and sometimes the meal is fat and calorie laden. So eating with friends at their homes is a lot more difficult for me than dining out!
