6 diet myths to ignore

Nicci asks: What diet myth do you think is misleading and needs to be “busted”?

No offence to Dr. John Foreyt, "director of the Behavioral Medicine Research Center at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston" but just saying “Calories are calories are calories, and it doesn’t matter what time you eat them. What matters are the total calories you take in.” is not quite sufficient to convince me. I prefer to see scientific research results. My observations of friends in "need to lose weight" situations leads me to believe otherwise, so forgive me if I don't take his word over their life experiences. I do agree that total calories matter, but unless we are all sedentary and do not participate in any kind of activities during the daylight hours, it would appear that what we eat during the day can certainly get burned away faster than what we eat after we have settled down for the night. Not that I have any wish to knock your ice cream habit or anything, I happen to enjoy as much ice cream as I like at any time, day or night.

What about diet soda verses regular soda? If you are eating super large burgers and fries do you really think the diet soda is helping?

Diet sodas! It's so disgusting that people actually think they are a good alternative to normal soda. Neither is good for you, but at least your body knows what to do with regular soda adn on occasion it is probably fine. Diet soda has been linked to cancer, premature labor and delivery in pregnant women and an increas in overall calories consumed. There is just nothing good about diet sodas!
