4 celeb diets to avoid

Brierley asks: Have you had success losing weight with any of these diets?

I guess celebs need to lose weight fast for roles and award shows, etc. But for regular people your "diet" needs to be something you can maintain forever. In 2010 I lost 20 lbs by eating more nutrient-dense foods, cooking at home more, reducing alcohol intake to a few drinks a week, and enjoying lots of fun exercise like running, ice skating, yoga, etc. I will happily keep this up forever!

Why doesn't it surprise me that a Registered Dietican is a fan of eating a gluten- and casein-laden diet? It's been shown that dairy actually leeches calcium from the bones, instead of adding calcium and that calcium is better received from dark leafy greens, just to begin with.
And you have anyone who has heavy metal poisoning (or exposure) has an opiate (and yes, addictive) reaction to gluten and casein. Doubt what I say? Trying going with gluten or casein for 3 days.

The raw food diet is reeediculously healthy. If certain vitamins like vit. D or vit. B-12 are some things you're not getting in excess, then supplements can help provide them, as well. But we also get Vit. D from the sun (a much better form of it, I might add) and there are sources for these vitamins. I think one of the biggest concerns is getting enough of the vitamins that occur in meat, when you're vegan or a vegetarian. These can be gotten from seaweed (Nori, Dulse, Kelp), nuts, seeds, legumes, etc.

For once, I'd like to see a mainstream nutritionist or dietician have their facts straight about how dairy (and gluten) Really affect the body. Just for once!! After all.. there's google now!!

Wow! FYI- google has a lot of both true and false information. You can't believe everything you read from google! Also, maybe I should get your number so that I can take my kids to you as their Dr.! It's funny that they would have gone to school so many years and then give me such horrible information like, to make sure they are drinking milk, yogurt or cheese. Next time we have an appointment, I will be sure to tell them that you know, "there is google now!!" You are ridiculous!

One of the worst articles I've read about healthy eating. We sure have a long way to go. Agree with the first commenter and disappointed with Eating Well - again. Just rename it, Eating mainstream and keep special interests in the Big Food happy, please.

Is she serious!!!!! I guess this "Diet Expert" does not know that there are carbohydrates in fruit and vegetables!!!
Another example of someone not doing "Appropriate" research before spouting off to get published on an article.

I have had success on the Dukan Diet. I have lost 40pds and i have kept it off. I am in the consolidation phase of the diet. I am really upset with all of these "experts" knocking this diet when they have clearly not done their homework. It is irresponsible journalism to give an expert opinion with no facts. This article is completely inaccurate.

Even if you did not read the book, if you just Google the 100 foods you can eat you will see that all fat free dairy is on the table for this diet, even during the attack phase. To report that you will not get proper calcium is completely false.

Get your facts straight before you report.

Please, people, take it from a doctor who knows better: Don't listen to dieticians, the company line is still low fat is best, when in fact that is the opposite of truth when it comes to weight loss. Read "Why we get fat and what to do about it" by Gary Taubes. If you want all the references, read "Good Calories, Bad Calories" by the same author. Sorry people, Atkins was right!

I think I'm going to have to think twice about renewing to this rag. The Palio Diet is not a Diet it is a lifestyle. Was any research done on people who have had horrible health problems and changed to this? I think not. I have fibromyalgia and a lot of people with Fibro are moving to this because it is improving their overall health. I have just started it and I can already tell a difference when I eat processed food again. Some people eat some dairy and some people eat 80/20. You have to do research on this LIFESTYLE CHANGE. I have more energy, less headaches, less aches and pains since I have changed my eating habits. Many people and doctors have suggested an anti inflammatory diet which is basically what is known as a Paleo Diet. This diet is grain free, dairy free, legume free, and nightshade vegetable free. Like I said before, everyone works it a little different but with a little research, one might not shove it off as a fad diet. Please RESEARCH before writing an option piece since doctors and other nutritional consults are suggesting eating PALEO or PRIMAL for health reasons

Never done any research to even read any of Loren Cordain's Paleo Diet, Paleo Answers, or even try using a Pub Med search and look at the peer reviewed studies that provide scientific evidence of the health benefits of the Paleo diet. Name another "fad diet" that is so highly referenced.
