I use olive oil exclusively to cook popcorn. No margerine or butter needed. I sprinkle on a little salt toss it in the bowl, then have fun eating a very good snack which has far fewer calories than any other snack food save for carrots.
I hav't eaten microwave popcorn in years. I can't stand the smell of the chemicals as they cook. Besides it tastes artificial and greasy.
The Splenda with cinnamon sounds good. I will try that soon.

I think you need something wet so the topping will stick on and so it's not so dry that it chokes you going down. I've been using half butter and half Earth Balance so I don't feel so guilty. My favorite topping is garlic salt and nutritional yeast.

i like flax seed oil, sea salt, and a "green" powder (like spirulina)........soooo yummy!!

Tumeric with a touch of cayenne. It stains my fingers yellow, but the taste is out of this world.
