I'm currently re-gaining some unwanted weight due to less work, and recent arthritis.
BUT, I know of some helpful hints, and here they are :
1) Get up earlier - providing you get enough rest already ( check with your physician )
2) If you don't like jogging long distances, then walk awhile with some sprints during your journey.
3) Park far away from your destinations - you'll walk more and burn more calories.
4) Set a limit on daily computer use. We don't lose much weight this way. Do we ? !!

These are indeed great tips in starting to lose weight. Personally, I have difficulty cutting my food intake with all those favorite food that really taste good to my appetite, but not a healthy to my diet. Currently, I am on my Paleo diet. I've read that the Paleo diet has been reported to eliminate bloating, clear up acne, eradicate seasonal allergies, free you from migraines, and even help you shed a few pounds. While none of this is guaranteed, cleaning up your diet and focusing on whole, fresh foods is definitely a good idea.
