This Memorial Day, my husband, Dan, and I are having a BBQ. Since I’m a food editor at EatingWell, our friends are used to a delicious spread of food when they come over for dinner. But throwing a backyard BBQ doesn’t need to be complicated or costly—the menu we’re going to serve is full of inexpensive dishes that are super scrumptious too. Here’s a sneak peek at our menu, which for everything from drinks to desserts, costs just about $5 per person:
When I’m entertaining, I love to grill a big hunk of meat. It‘s just easier to have only one thing to pay attention to rather than keeping track of who wants cheese on their burger and who doesn’t. Smoked Turkey Breast is great for entertaining because it feeds a crowd, plus it costs about $1.50 per serving....
There’s something about spring fruits—plump cherries, tart rhubarb, juicy apricots and sweet strawberries—that I just can’t get enough of.
I make sure my neighbor with the unruly rhubarb patch knows she can pawn off any extra on me. When the organic berry patch down the road opens up, I go on several picking sprees to satisfy my urge for fresh berries plus have enough to make jam and to stock my freezer with frozen fruit. Summer is just around the corner and that means that our weekends for the next few months are filling up with lots of road trips. My mother-in-law lives on Cape Cod, so we always plan a trip or two there to get in some beach time, and we’re finally going up to Acadia National Park in Maine for a weekend camping trip with friends. But the night before my husband, Dan, and I jump in the car, there’s one thing we always do: make some quick snacks.

I really truly love salad. When the weather gets warmer, I have one for either lunch or dinner every day—sometimes both. (Get 25+ recipes for side salads and main-dish salads.)

Mother’s Day is just around the corner. I like to show my mom how much she means to me by helping her have the most chill and relaxing day possible. She loves to sleep in—or really, she likes to lie in bed until late morning reading a book, possibly with our dog curled up next to her. Luckily, she’s happy to be coaxed out of bed by a delicious brunch.
I like to make Mom an amazing brunch at home, instead of going out. Having a full spread of delicious homemade brunch recipes feels like a splurge, but costs less and is yummier than what we’d get if we went out to a crowded restaurant. This menu of brunch dishes is super-easy to make, plus many can be prepared in advance so I can have a relaxing morning as well.
