PRESS RELEASESNews Release - James Beard Award 2005FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE May 2, 2005 EATINGWELL MAGAZINE WINS PRESTIGIOUS JAMES BEARD AWARD FOR THE SECOND CONSECUTIVE YEAR Editor James M. Lawrence Wins in Magazine Feature Writing Without Recipes Category Contributing Writer Raghavan Iyer Nominated in Magazine Feature Writing With Recipes Category and Contributing Editor and Author Patsy Jamieson Nominated for The Essential EatingWell Cookbook in the Focus on Health Category Charlotte, VT– EatingWell, a leading publisher of information on food and health, was awarded a James Beard Foundation Journalism Award Friday night in New York City by The James Beard Foundation. This marks the second consecutive year the magazine has been honored with a James Beard Award. EatingWell Editor James M. Lawrence won in the Magazine Feature Writing Without Recipes category for his article “Catch of the Day: Choosing the Right Seafood in a World of Scaremongers, Fishmongers, and Scientists Trolling for Credible Answers.” The article was published in the Spring 2004 issue of EatingWell magazine and examined the controversies surrounding farmed salmon and other current issues of concern to seafood consumers. “These are not easy times for people who love to eat fish,” said Lawrence. “The consumer must face a tangle of questions about PCBs, mercury, disappearing species and the pros and cons of aquaculture. It’s encouraging to see that people are not simply throwing their hands up, but rather are willing to read full-length articles that help them make better decisions about what they buy and what they eat.” In addition, EatingWell was nominated for two other 2005 James Beard Awards. Contributing writer Raghavan Iyer was nominated in the Magazine Feature Writing With Recipes category for “South Indian with Ease” from the Winter 2004 edition of EatingWell. Contributing Editor and Author Patsy Jamieson was nominated for her new book, The Essential EatingWell Cookbook in the Focus on Health category. In 2004 EatingWell Senior Editor Allison Cleary won a James Beard Award for “Razing the Pyramid,” her Winter 2003 article describing how misguided government nutrition policies may have fed into the current obesity epidemic and contributed to millions of premature deaths. Established in 1990, The James Beard Foundation Awards are the premier honors for food journalists, writers and culinary professionals in North America, with judging done by more than 600 food and beverage professionals from around the country. The Eating Well Media Group is emerging as a leading national source of contemporary nutrition, cooking and healthy lifestyle information for a growing audience of active consumers passionate about food and wellness. Its award-winning flagship magazine has a paid circulation of more than 300,000 copies per issue, and the company also has an expanding list of high-quality, award-winning book titles, a content-rich website (www.eatingwell.com), a new series of special-interest weekly e-mail food and health newsletters and content-providing partnerships in television, radio and web publishing.
